Restless
"You awaken us to delight in your praise. You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you." - St. Augustine
Finding
Beauty in the wait is hard because so many things around us beg for us and pull at
us to not just sit and rest at the feet of Jesus; to simply wait on the Lord.
There is so
much that can lay between us and finding the beauty in waiting, but if we allow
the restlessness that waiting creates in us to lead us to Jesus then we have
found the beauty that we were meant to find in waiting. If waiting is what it
takes to bring us to our knees, draw us in, and lead us back to Jesus, the only
One that can truly satisfy, then why do we try to run away from it?
I think
about Hannah in 1 Samuel Chapter 1 and how God had a clear purpose in her wait.
We never wait in vain on the Lord, never.
One of the
most transforming things for me was when I learned the difference between waiting on
God and waiting on God for the thing. Just waiting on God & trusting in His
faithfulness we will only be strengthened over time as we wait upon the Lord.
But, if we wait on the Lord for “the thing” we are only going to be discouraged if we don’t get what it is we think we want or it just
didn’t turn out how we wished.
The beauty
in waiting is allowing that restlessness to bring you, draw you to the One your
heart truly desires—the only One who can bring you rest.
“I’m
restless till I rest in you, O God.”- Audrey Assad
As long as we think that thing we are waiting on is going to bring us peace and rest we will never be
content. Until we look to Jesus as our everything and THE source…we will
search. But, when we rest in God we are no longer restless.
